Four repeaters, including Harvard forward Joe Cavanagh, were among 13 players named to the ECAC Division 1 all-star hockey squad this week.
Mike Hyndman, a defense man who co-captained Boston University to third place in the ECAC playoffs last weekend. Tim Sheehy, the Boston College center who led the nation in scoring this winter, and Brown defenseman Curt Bennett who ranked third in the East in scoring, were the other three who retained positions on the squad.
Cavanagh, who played at defense for part of the season, finished the year with 53 points on 14 goals and 39 assists tying senior George McManama for the squad scoring lead, and placing in a tie for fourth in the East.
Tom Earl who finished second to Sheehy in ECAC scoring with 62 points and led Colgate to a 14-7-3 record also occupied a spot on the forward unit, as did captain John Ungues of Cornell and Northeastern's Dave Poile.
Joining Hyndman and Bennett at defense were Boston College sophomore Tom Mellor. Clarkson captain Wayne La-Chance, and Cornell's Dan Lodboa. The goaltenders were Brown's Don MeGinnis and Brian Cropper, who preserved a 1.75 goal-per-game average for Cornell.
In addition. Clarkson forward Jerry Kemp was named Sophomore of the Year, succeeding Cavanagh, and Sheehy, whom Sports Illustrated once called "the best American college player" was selected as the Most Valuable Player.
"This is a tremendous honor." Sheehy said. "Naturally, I'm thrilled. What makes it even greater is that it happened around St. Patrick's Day."
"Timmy's a fine boy." added Eagle coach "Snooks" Kelly.
