Crimson Drives To Another Win

An outstanding defensive effort by the Yale Daily News in the last 42 seconds of play drove the CRIMSON offense back 98 yards to set up a last-play safety, enabling the Daily News to lose, 23-2.

"I'm proud of my boys," said an exuberant Mike Goodman afterwards. "I was afraid we'd lose, 23-0,"

"I was afraid we'd win, 23-0," equipment manager and retiring senior Scott Jacobs said. "That safety was a real relief."

The CRIMSON, which entered the game undefeated, shredded the hapless Daily News defense, while cornerback Mike Wallace helped shut off the impotent Daily News offense, paced by Peter Diamond.

"I'm just terribly impressed," said John Yovicsin, who is coaching today for the last time. He was especially awed by the play of Bruce Wood, who dumped Lew Schwarts in the end zone for the CRIMSON'S safety.

Despite Goodman's happiness about the clutch safety, he expressed disappointment. "It's a real shame that those guys not only outclass us on a journalistic plane, but on an athletic one as well."
