A former Harvard Overseer was inaugurated as the 14th president of Brown yesterday.

Donald F. Hornig '40 was selected by the Brown Board of Overseers last March to replace Ray L. Heffner, who resigned to become provost of the University of Iowa. Hornig served on the Harvard Board of Overseers here until last June, when his term expired.

Hornig, a chemist, served as National Science Adviser to President Nixon. During World War II, he served as a group leader at the Los Alamos Laboratories which helped in the development of the atomic bomb. He was acting dean of the Brown School of Education from 1953 to 1954.
