8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
Brown's varsity soccer team, previously undefeated and ranked second in New England polls, was upset last Saturday by last-place Dartmout, 1-0, to create one of the closest Ivy League soccer races in years.
Harvard remains the only undefeated, untied squad in the league, but even the Crimson came close to falling victim to a second division team. A goal by Solomon Gomez in the final minute ofplay Saturday pushed Harvard past Cornell, 2-1.
The Crimson now leads the league with four points, but four teams are within two points of the League lead. Should Harvard lose to Dartmouth this Friday, a four way tie for first place could develop, with two more teams only one point behind.
Cornell will play Yale, and Princeton is at Penn on Saturday, while Columbia and Brown have the weekend off.
At Dartmouth last week, the Indians won the defensive match on a second period penalty shot by Garry Gaspar. Coming into the game, Dartmouth had gone four matches without a victory while Brown was 4-0-1.
Contends
Columbia moved into contention with a relatively easy 3-1 victory over Yale. Forward Joe Bruce scored for the Lions in the first minute of play, and Rocco Commisso and Omar Chamma put the match out of Yale's reach.
