A Harvard Overseers' committee established after last April's occupation of University Hall has mailed a letter to all 5,362 teaching members of the University asking them to give their views on the paths Harvard should follow in the future.
Though the letter asks for replies by August 1, various delays had held up the mailing of the letters until mid-July, said William Young, secretary of the committee. The committee will consider all replies received throughout the summer and fall terms, Young said.
The committee--termed the Overseers' Long Range Study Committee and more familiarly known as the Friendly Committee--was established "to undertake a deeper long range study of those factors in the University which made possible the recent events and to recommend such action as may be appropriate." It is headed by Judge Henry J. Friendly '23, of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the second Circuit.
Replies to the committee's letter can be addressed to Mr. Young at Wadsworth House.
