The varsity lacrosse team plays Williams today as the Crimson attempts to get back on the winning track after Wednesday's loss to Brown, 10-6. The game starts at 2 p.m. on the Business School field.
Williams should be a welcome change from the Ivy League opponents Harvard has had to play recently. The Ephmen are sometimes strong, but this year they are 0-5. They lost to M.I.T., 12-6, and to Yale, 17-5. Harvard beat M.I.T., 12-11.
"Quite frankly," said Crimson coach Bruce Munro. "I'm looking by this game and the one with Holy Cross to the Princeton contest." The Tigers are undefeated in the Ivy League, and Munro wants to use the next two games to prepare for Princeton. "I can't conceive of Williams beating us, but you never know, they just might squeak by us," he added.
Hat Trick
Today's game may provide an opportunity for some of the high-spirited reserves, the "all-stars," to see action. Crowd-pleasing attackman Gordy Grand said yesterday. "I'm going to get a hat trick--three minutes of playing time." Midfielder Ted Rumsey and defenseman Brian Landry claimed that they would be ready if the call should come.
The best finish which Harvard can hope for in the league is 4-2. But to do this, the stickmen must defeat Yale and Dartmouth, as well as Princeton. The game with the Tigers is May 3 at Princeton.
At 2:30 p.m. today on the adjacent field, the Yardlings play the Holy Cross freshmen. The Crimson had won three games in a row before losing to Brown, 13-10, Wednesday despite a phenomenal 34 saves by Randy Smith.
