Billionaire Investor Gerald Chan Under Scrutiny for Neglect of Historic Harvard Square Theater
Harvard's track team scored a sparkling 88-66 victory over Army yesterday morning in a meet that was highlighted by Richie Szaro's record-breaking javelin throw. The teams were scheduled to meet Saturday at Soldiers' Field, but rain forced the meet to be run Sunday at Boston College's all-weather track.
On his last throw, Szaro heaved the javelin an astounding 246 ft., 7 in., exactly 15 feet further that the Harvard record he set last week in the Brown meet, and almost eleven feet beyond that of the top Army contender in yesterday's meet.
The day's heroics were not confined to Szaro, however, as the Crimson swept all three places in both the mile and two-mile, and captured two out of three places in seven more events.
Dick Benka and Dave Pottetti were both double winners for Harvard. Benka won his specialty, the shot put, with a 52 ft. 81/2 in. toss, and came back to win the discus with a throw of 161 ft. 11 in. Pottetti ran an excellent 9:02.6 to capture the two-mile, after sharing first place honors in the mile with teammates John Heyburn and Tom Spengler in an amazing three-way dead heat.
