Wrestlers Face Princeton To Decide Ivy 2nd Place

Princeton's wrestling team, loaded with sophomores, will challenge Harvard's varsity for second-place honors in the Ivy league today at 3 p.m. at the IAB.

The contest, rescheduled from Feb. 15 after the Princeton team came down with impetigo, matches two young teams in what must be rated as one of the closest Ivy matches of the year.

Both teams have 5-1 League records, with narrow losses to invincible Penn, this year's Ivy champion. Overall, Princeton boasts a 9-3 record against Harvard's 8-3 mark.

Harvard coach John Lee sees the match as a tossup. 'we're very evenly matched in most of the weights," he said. "We have our strongest lineup of the year, and I think we're ready."

Rested Up

Bruce Goodman will return to 123 for the Crimson tonight after a week's rest at 130. Princeton has not won at 123 all season. At 130, however, Bill Wasserstrom will oppose one of the Tiger's seven wonder sophomores, undefeated Al Uyeda.

At 152, Harvard's Mike slutzger (2-4) faces Clay McEldowney, who has compiled a 9-3 mark at that weight.

"I think we'll be slightly ahead coming out of the lower weights." Lee said. "The upper weights could be vital, and they're too close to call."

At 167, undefeated captain Howie Chatterton will oppose another Tiger sophomore wonder, Tom Potts, who is 9-3, while Harvard's John Imrie faces sophomore Tim Nichols (8-4).

At 191, the condition of Howie Chatterton may prove crucial to the Crimson. Chatterton undefeated until a knee injury sidelined him early last month, has been working out for a week and will see action for the first time tonight. "His condition is about what you'd expect," Lee said. "But he's a great competitor and we're going to need him."

A Question

But the biggest questionmark of the afternoon will come at heavyweight, where Harvard's Tom Tripp will oppose the Tigers' Chuck Dressel. Both are sophomores with 8-3 records, and in a freshman meet last year they wrestled to a draw.

At 1:30 p.m. today, Harvard's freshman team will wrestle the Princeton freshmen. The Tiger Cubs are rated one of the strongest freshman teams in the East, and have lost only to Army and Lehigh.
