Students in Soc Rel 153 listened to lecture yesterday munching on apples and ice cream sandwiches supplied by radical members of the course.
Robert L. Mendelsohn '71 and two other students handed out food at the doors of Room 18 in 2 Divinity Avenue as the class filed in. Alex Inkeles, professor of Sociology and teacher of the course, was presented with an apple as he walked in.
Midway through his lecture, Mendelsohn offered Inkeles an ice cream sandwich. The student explained that they were trying to prove that a class could be fun. Inkeles ate the sandwich, saying, "This is a high price to pay for initiation."
