The varsity baseball team, which represented the East in the NCAA "College World Series" last year, was ranked twelfth nationally in the first poll released by the Collegiate Baseball, newspaper.
Harvard was the only Ivy League team named to the Top 20, which was headed by Santa Clara. The undefeated Broncos have already played nine games.
The baseball team will have to repeat last Spring's performance without the help of its ace pitcher, Ray Peters. Peters signed a professional contract with the new expansion team, the Seattle Pilots. To offset the loss of Peters, the varsity will have to draw from last year's freshman team, the best since 1900.
The Crimson opens its 101st season during Spring vacation with a trip to Florida and Maryland for six games.
