Soc Rel 148-149

Petition Collects 1200 Signatures

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Soc Rel 148/149 students have collected over 1200 signatures on a petition demanding that the course be allowed to continue "without further interference."

The group expects to get about 1000 more signatures since only half of the copies of the petition being circulated have been returned so far, Helen A. Green '69 said yesterday.

The petition states in part: "Since its inception, [Soc Rel 148/149] has been subjected to continual harassment, on technical and administrative grounds . . . We believe that the real objections to the course are . . . to its radical political content and form.

"The course is developing a serious radical analysis of the workings of American society through an open and democratic classroom structure. It is also, in part, an attempt to put into practice the ideas it develops about helping to build a movement for changing society . . ."
