Harvard's undefeated squash team broke a ten-year-old jinx yesterday by defeating Navy, 8-1, on the Midshipmen's home court.

By taking its first victory at Annapolis in its last six tries, the Crimson easily passed the first of this crucial weekend's two tests. It will face the second at Penn today.

Captain Anil Nayar set yesterday's pace with a 3-0 defeat of Navy's number one, Bob Cowin, while Harvard's number two, Larry Terrell, considered second only to Nayar nationally, took an easy 3-1 victory.

Harvard's only tense moments came in the fourth, fifth, and sixth matches. At number four, Michel Schienmann lost two of three games and was down, 10-1, in the fourth before staging a miracle rally to win, 17-15. Changing his strategy, Schienmann won the fifth and decisive game, 15-14.

Number five man Fernando Gonzales salvaged at 15-14 victory in the third game after falling behind, 2-0, and went on to win, 3-2.

Harvard's only loss of the afternoon came when Navy's Charlie Wood defeated John Ince, 3-1, in the sixth match.

The Crimson will face Penn today without the services of Peter Abrams, undefeated at number eight. Abrams, suffered a flareup of an old back injury during yesterday's match, which he won, 3-1. Steve Whitman will move up from number nine today, with Jaime Gonzalez taking over ninth position.

Penn has also beaten Navy by an 8-1 count. "Harvard will win the first two matches," Navy coach Art Potter predicted yesterday, "but after that, I rate it as a tossup."
