Hornblower Back of Week For Performance at Penn

Senior halfback Ray Hornblower has been named Harvard's Offensive Player of the Week, Ivy Back of the Week, and a member of the ECAC backfield for his performance against Penn last Saturday.

Hornblower carried 28 times in the 20-6 victory to move into third place on the all-time Harvard rushing list. His best run was a 59-yard dash around left end for a touchdown in the middle of the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach for Penn. On that play, he broke a tackle at the line of scrimmage and then outran the Red and Blue secondary.

This is the second time in his three-year varsity career that Hornblower has been named Ivy Back of the Week. In last year's Cornell game be gained 138 yards, a personal best at that time, to crane the weekly honor. His 173 yards Saturday was a new high for Horublower. "Ray is playing as well as any back we've ever had." coach John Yoviesin said Sunday.

Slow starts during both his sophomore and junior seasons and a severe ankle sprain near the end of last year have held down Hornblower's overall statistics hefore this year, and last Fall those setbacks may have cost him the league rushing title.

Unreasonable

Though he now ranks second among league rushers, his prospects for earning the title this Fall appear unreasonable because of Cornell's Ed Marinaro, who is far ahead of all competition.

Hornblower, who was the only one to win Harvard's Offensive Player of the Week Award twice last year despite the presence of Vic Gatto, is the only member of the original backfield who is starting after the first six games. Frank Champi quit, Steve Harrison displaced John Ballantyne and Gus Crim is injured, as are Scotty Guild and John Lakaska.

Captain John Creamer helped the defuse turn in another outstanding effort Saturday, Cramer, left defensive end, was named Harvard's Defensive Player of the Week.
