Sailing Team Will Appeal Protest That Cost Harvard the Fowle Cup

Harvard's sailors finished third in two regattas last weekend, but they are appealing one of two protests which caused them to lose the Fowle Trophy Sunday at M.I.T.

The Crimson had defeated all seven of its competitors in a round robin of the Fowle Trophy Regatta Saturday The teams race four crews each. But in a sail-off with Coast Guard the following day, the Harvard sailors were charged with two protests. giving Coast Guard the victory. M.I.T. then beat Coast Guard to win the trophy.

The four Crimson skippers were Robbie Doyle. Jeff Storer, Abbott Reeve, and Joe Worth. The crew were Boyd Travsky, Steve Glovinsky, John Roberts, and Phil DeNormandie.

Harvard's other third-place finish was in the Staake Trophy three-crew competition at Coast Guard, Doug Allen, Phil Anderson and Jeff Padnos skippered.

The freshmen had to settle for fourth place in a regatta Sunday at Tufts, and Radcliffe was second by two points to M.I.T. at Brandeis.

Harvard will conclude its fall season next weekend when it tries to win the Schell Trophy at M.I.T. The two-day competition also includes Rhode Island, Brown, Tufts, and Coast Guard.
