A last-minute recount has revealed that North House, not East House, was the winner of last month's swimming marathon at Radcliffe. A spokesman for the Radcliffe Gym revealed the results of the recount early Thursday morning.
East had been on top of the swimming world after a rally on the marathon's last day had earned back the lead East had held early in the week before a North House comeback. The margin of victory had been 15 laps, but the recount showed North the winner by 82 laps.
Many East girls, especially those who had turned in over 200 laps, were heart-broken Thursday after learning that they had not won after all. "This news is terrible." one girl said. "I don't see why they couldn't say that we both won. I'm just grateful that we learned about this after hour exams."
