Cornell tailback Ed Marinaro's record-breaking running attack in last Saturday's game against Harvard catapulted him into Ivy Back of the Week yesterday.
After rushing 281 yards Saturday to become the nation's leading college ground-gainer. Marinaro was again selected as the ECAC Sophomore of the Week for the third consecutive time.
Breaks Ivy Record
Marinaro broke the old Ivy single-game rushing record of 238 yards. ?et by Ellis Moore of Princeton in 1968 against Columbia. The Cornell sophomore's 30 points also equaled Moore's scoring record which was set against Harvard in 1967.
The 6' 2'' 205-pound Marinaro has carried the ball 145 times to amass 843 yards in four games, an average of 211 yards per game.
"He has a great ability to size up the situation. a gift some people are just born with" Cornell coach Jack Musick gloated last week. "He can pick out openings in the line at full speed."
'Definite Pro Prospect'
Cornell offensive coordinator Carm Piecone hails Marinaro as a "definite pro prospect." yet the sophomore standout has other career interests, too. "I can always be successful in hotel administration even if I don't make the pros or if I get hurt. A diploma from a big football school wouldn't mean anything." he said.
