The Radcliffe Union of Students voted unanimously last night to allow dormitories to set their own parietal hours, up to 24 hours a day.
Each dorm must now decide, by a two-thirds vote, the hours it will allow men upstairs.
The action can be called up for review by the Review Board, half of whose members are students. The trustees of the College hold the final veto.
Even if dorm autonomy undergoes a review, it will remain in effect at least until a final decision is reached.
In an RUS referendum last Spring, 683 girls voted in favor of dorm autonomy. Twenty-three voted to retain the present parietals of 72 hours a week.
"The administration knows we are considering dorm autonomy," Ellen Messer '69, president of RUS, said. "I hope that they will give it a chance to go into effect and that if it does not work, students will take the initiative in reviewing it," she added.
