Sophomore Verdi DiSesa led the Harvard rugby team to a 31-0 shutout of Wesleyan Saturday. The victory was Harvard's first after losing to Holy Cross and Powerful Brown, in its first two games.
DiSesa ran for three tries, twice romping 60 yards to score. In all, the talented three-quarter amassed over 300 yards running. Aiding DiSesa in the scoring was wing Bucky Hayes who added a pair of three-pointers.
Tenacious
The forwards, the counterparts of football's linemen were tenaciously consistent in getting the ball in the scrum for DiSesa and Hayes. Forward Kip Holmes took advantage of a rare opportunity to score a try himself.
Harvard not only outclassed the Wesleyan squad with individual talent but also moved the ball well using set formations. The basic strategy of these patterns is to move the ball downfield in a series of lateral passes Captains Ralph Harder and Phil Ordway drill the coachless ruggers on these formations each day in practice.
B
In the "B" game Harvard tied Wesleyan, ?-?. The Wesleyan ruggers used a top-flight "A" fullback to round out the undermanned "B" squad in holding the Crimson to a draw.
