Harvard's wrestling team will be gunning for its second victory of the season when it grapples with M.I.T. at 7:30 p.m. tonight at M.I.T.
In the twenty-year series, Harvard has never lost to the Engineers, but last year's score was 22-19, and this year's match may be just as close. The Engineers outstanding heavyweight, 230-pound Fred Andree, placed fourth in the national tournament last year and is favored to beat Tom Tripp tonight.
Strong Wrestlers
M.I.T. has three other strong wrestlers in Jack Maxham (145), Jim Hawkins (152), and Vincent Price (177). All three won their weight classes in the New England League Tournament last winter to give M.I.T. a second place finish behind Springfield.
"M.I.T. is not bad at all and should be tough, probably more so than Cornell, our next opponent." Harvard coach John Lee said.
Nevertheless, the Crimson is a clear favorite. Harvard won its only dual meet over Franklin & Marshall and dominated the N.E.A.A.U. tournament three weeks ago. With the exception of John Imrie and Tony Raynor, all wrestlers are healthy and down to weight. Imrie is recovering from a rib injury and will compete against Cornell on Saturday. Raynor has the flu.
Captain Howie Chatterton will replace Raynor at 177, Mark Faller will move up one class to 167, and Bart Harvey will wrestle at 160. Bruce Goodman has recovered from a shoulder injury and will compete in the 130-pound class.
