Pop Hits and Politics: At Yardfest, Students Dance to Bedingfield and a Student Band Condemns Trump
Harvard students have for years dabbled with rock music and its trappings but only recently have some genuinely competent home-grown groups emerged. The Bead Game is of this new breed of serious musicians producing good rock.
The five man band at its best makes a tight inventive sound heavily steeped in today's slick-blues sound. Their influences are diverse: two members of the band swear by soul music, two others have strong feelings about the Doors--John Leone, the strapping singer detests them, while Bob Gass, a soaring organ player loves them. But all of them share a common commitment to being dedicated to their music and have been approached by Vanguard about a recording contract.
Their music is not only nice to listen to it is also great for dancing as this summer's mixer-goers have discovered. A last chance to hear them will be tonight when they play yet another mixer-dance at Memorial Hall.
