Varsity Baseball Meets Brandeis In League Test

After disposing of Princeton (4-3) and Columbia (7-2) over the weekend to remain in a tie for first place in the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League, Harvard's varsity nine turns its attention to the Greater Boston League race today.

The Crimson hosts Brandeis at 3 p.m. and must win in order to preserve a respectable place in the league. Harvard took the EIBL last year. Already Harvard has dropped games to Boston University and Boston College losing its chance for the crown. In order to place at least third the Crimson must beat last year's cellar club, Brandeis.

So far this season the team has been led by Jeff Grate, the senior shortstop who won the Wendell Bat as a sophomore but was ineligible to play last year. On Saturday, Grate hit four singles and paced the team to an impressive 7-2 win over Columbia. Promising sophomore Jim Reynolds, whose long triple accounted for one run against Columbia, will start his second game in right field. Bob Dorwart, whose rocky first inning against M.I.T. on Tuesday gave the Engineers an upset victory, will be the probable starter.

The Crimson record so far is 9-6, 4-0 in the Eastern League and 1-3 in the Greater Boston League.
