Sailing Team Finishes 2nd In Boston Championships

Harvard's sailing team placed second to M.I.T. in the Greater Boston Sailing Championships last Friday in the first of four regattas Crimson sailors competed in last weekend.

Harvard's three boats scored a total of 121 points in their seven races. (A boat receives one point for starting, one for finishing, and one for every boat it finishes ahead of, in each race. M.I.T. won the Championship and the Oberg Trophy with 150 points.

Other schools competing in the regatta hosted by M.I.T. were B.U., Tufts, Northeastern, Babson, and B.C., which finished behind Harvard in that order.

The Crimson's boats were manned by Tony Parker (skipper) and Woody Woodworth (crew) in the A division, Jim Harper (skipper) and Rusty Aertson (crew) in the B division, and Parker Jayne (skipper) and Denny Anderson (crew) in the C division.

On Saturday, Parker, the team's best skipper, finished first with 58 points in the fourth heat of the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association's single-handed Eliminations at the University of Rhode Island.

His victory entitled the senior to compete in the NEISA's Single-handed Finals at Harvard on May 18 and 19.

Junior John Bullard finished third behind Parker Saturday which may qualify him for next month's finals.

Two other Crimson boats competed in a varsity regatta at Brown Saturday and scored 68 team points to take second place. Nichols College won the regatta.

In the A division Harvard's Bill Smith (skipper) and Denny Anderson (crew) tied for second with 29 points. Jeffrey Padnos (skipper) and Rick Scheuer (crew) won the B division with 39 points.

On Sunday, Harvard placed fourth in the Geiger Trophy Regatta at M.I.T. The three Crimson boats were manned by Jayne and Woodworth, Padnos and Bullard, and Louis Marett and George Huguet.

Dartmouth won the regatta, with M.I.T. and U.R.I. placing second and third respectively.
