Fourth Period Barrage Topples Lacrosse Team

The Harvard Lacrosse team bowed 8-6 to Brown yesterday under the pressure of three quick goals late in the fourth period.

After Saturday's close loss to top-rated Cornell, the Crimson stickmen had trouble finding their momentum in the first half, but finally picked up play early in the fourth period only to drop the win in the closing minutes.

Bruce Regan led the Harvard attack with one goal and three assists while Jamie Kilbreth and John Ince knocked in two goals apiece.

Brown's Rick Buck broke a 4-4 deadlock at the beginning of the fourth period on a short flip shot from the right of the net, but Ince came right back to score two goals on fast breaks and put the Crimson ahead 6-5.

Harvard dominated field play until Jack Beers of Brown moved the ball in on Harvard goalie Kirby Wilcox to tie the game 6-6 with five minutes remaining.

Then Brown grabbed the lead on tallies by John Holchuk and Randy Cooper, and froze the ball through the last three minutes of play.

Harvard jumped off to an early first period lead on Kilbreth's two scores, but Brown got back both tallies in the second period to tie the score 2-2 at the half.

After the low scoring first half, Harvard's attackmen opened up play with fast breaks and short passing in front of the Brown goal. The new strategy opened the field for Regan's lone score and another tally by Marty Cain, but again Brown scored two goals to keep the match even until the decisive final period.

The lacross team had showed great promise in its early matches of the season as it rolled over M.I.T., Holy Cross, and Penn, but this is its second straight loss this week and it still must face last year's Ivy champion, Princeton, on Saturday.

Cornell, Brown, and Princeton are all undefeated in Ivy play this year.
