Nine to Meet Holy Cross; Golfers Open Ivy Season

The Holy Cross baseball team will be the testing ground for several Crimson experiments today as Varsity coach Norm Shepard tries to find a winning combination.

Shepard plans to start Jim Reynolds in place of the injured Paul Karageannes in left field and converted first-baseman Jim Cox in right field. Cox will replace pitcher Bob Lincoln in the outfield as Lincoln was unable to continue his torrid hitting against Boston College.

Bob Dorwart will get the call as starting pitcher if he feels his arm is sufficiently rested after his three inning stint against B.C. on Wednesday. If Dorwart isn't ready, George Lalich will start for the Crimson.

The team has faltered lately in both hitting and pitching, while the defense, the squad's chief weakness in the early part of the season, seems to have settled down at last.

The pitching staff may be bolstered by Ray Peter's apparent return to the form that earned him a 9-3 record last year. Against B.C. he worked three strong innings in what Shepard said was his best performance to date.

Jeff Grate leads the team in hitting with a 415 average, but Harvard's other top batters are struggling to stay near 300. Against B.C., Grate banged out two singles in three at bats, while the rest of the lineup got only one other hit.
