Golfers Bag Tri-Meet; Jar Williams and B.C.

The Harvard golf team swept past Boston College, 7-0, and squeezed past Williams, 4-3, for its fourth and fifth victories of the year in yesterday's tri-match at Williams Taconic Country Club.

The Williams match was won on the 17th hole of the last match of the day, when Harvard's seventh man Joe Tibbetts topped Hank Banger, 2-1.

The Crimson showed great depth in their matches as three of the four Williams wins came on top performances from the 5,6, and 7 men on the Harvard squad.

Bruce Lopucki, playing number two, beat Williams' Dorsey Lynch, 4 and 3, to gain the other victory.

Two sophomores, number five man Yank Heisler and number six Jack Purdy had their best days of the year as they easily downed their men, shooting medal scores of 72 and 76 respectively.

Other Harvard players didn't fare so well. Captain Bo Keefe finished the day with a respectable 76 total score, but lost his match to Bill Califee of Williams when he missed two short birdie putts on the back nine in a 3 and 2 defeat.

Tommy Wynne, number three, dropped his match 3 and 2 to Chip Brahman of Williams, and Paul Oldfield, number four, took the other Harvard loss to Williams, despite a solid trouncing of B.C.'s Tom Riorden.

The duo victories ran the Harvard record to 5-0 in season competition going into next Friday's Ivy opener against Columbia and Penn at Penn. Last year Harvard beat Penn for the first time in ten years, and will face virtually the same men this year.
