'Esquire' Names Dunster Student As Best Dressed

You probably thought the most stylish clothes horse at Harvard belonged to the Porcellian Club and lived in Ellot House. You're wrong.

Esquire magazine has selected Thomas J. Shields '69, chairman of the Dunster House Committee, as the best dressed man on campus. Shields--the only Ivy Leaguer among the ten chosen--will spend the next week in New York and Washington D. C. trying to predict what fashions will be most popular next year and modeling for Esquire.

He will also appear in the monthly magazine's annual August student edition.

Shields said he spends more than $400 on clothes each year. His wardrobe--which fills two closets, a dresser, a trunk, and a couple of suitcases--includes 20 sport coats, 15 pairs of trousers, 35 shirts, and 40 ties.

"This honor is the culmination of my three years at Harvard," Shields said. "It shows what the Harvard experience can do for you. Specialization is the key to success. I specialized in clothes."
