Yardling Cagers Top Indians for 60-56 Win

Captain Dale Dover came through with a three-point play in the final 31 seconds and 6-8 center George Yates tipped in a year high 24 points to propel the Harvard freshman basketball team over Dartmouth, 60-56, last Tuesday.

Boosted by Yates' 16 points in the first half, Harvard shot out to a 12 point lead at halftime. Yates consistently cleared the boards to squelch any Dartmouth scoring threat.

In the second half, Harvard's shooting deteriorated and the suddenly aggressive Indians were able to seize a one point advantage with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

Dover's twisting drive and foul shot combination put the Crimson ahead to stay, however, and Yates sealed the victory by grabbing a key rebound and converting two free throws.

Yates' 24 points led all scorers, and Dover contributed 11 in the winning effort.

The Yardling's win gave them a 11-4 overall record.

The game was a sad farewell for Dartmouth freshman coach Tony Lupien, who will resign his basketball post to concentrate on his varsity baseball duties at Hanover.
