Look both ways before crossing the Cambridge streets when you return from Spring vacation. The Department of Traffic and Parking is planning to make some more changes in the spaghetti-like streets around Harvard Square at 2 a.m. Sun., March 31.
The rotary traffic pattern around the Cambridge Common will disappear. Waterhouse St., Garden St., and Mass. Ave. between Cambridge and Waterhouse Sts. will be two-way again, according to Traffic Director Robert E. Rudolph.
The leg of Mass Ave. between Cambridge and Garden Sts. will become one-way south, as it was before the present pattern was established last summer.
Three other changes will complete the new pattern. Appian Way will become one-way south from Garden St. to Brattle St., while left turns will be prohibited from Mason St. onto Garden St. Left turns at the intersection of Mass Ave. and Waterhouse St. will also be prohibited.
Drivers wishing to go from Cambridge St. to Concord Ave. will have to make a left turn at Mass Ave. and a right turn onto Garden St., instead of using Waterhouse St.
With some small improvements the basic traffic congestion in the Square will remain as it is. Direct access to Mt. Auburn St. will be possible by making a right turn from Brattle Square.
