As of yesterday only two Harvard Houses, Winthrop and Lowell, will offer General Education courses next Fall. No proposals for new courses in other houses were submitted by yesterday's official deadline.
Course proposals submitted after the official deadline will still be considered, Edward T. Wilcox, director of the Program of General Education, said yesterday.
Wilcox said he notified the Masters about six weeks ago that house courses would be coming up for review before the Committee on General Education. He asked the nine senior common rooms for general feelings about the program and specific course suggestions, but received no comments.
Crooks Wouldn't Rush
Dudley House has been discussing the possibility of setting up a house course, Master Thomas E. Crooks '49 said yesterday, "I think it's a very good idea," he added, "but we can't rush into any recommendations for next year."
According to Adams House Master Rueben A. Brower, his House has been offering seminars on its own for years. Speaking of new Gen Ed courses for next Fall, Brower said, "I'd be surprised if something weren't offered."
Winthrop House will offer three Gen Ed courses next Fall. Two currently being given, Hum 10, "The Modern Sensibility," and Soc Sci 9, "Current Problems in Economics, Government, and Sociology of the United States," will be continued.
In addition, Nat Sci 1, a course on energy intended for non-scientists, will be offered again next year, when its originator Master Bruce Chalmers returns from his leave of absence in England.
Lowell House, which instituted a Hum 10 of its own this Spring, will give an expanded full-year version next year.
