Parallel appointments as visiting professors at Harvard and M.I.T. have been given to Geoffrey and Margaret Burbidge, a husband and wife team in astrophysics from the University of California at San Diego.
Mrs. Burbidge has been appointed Abby. Rockefeller Mauze Visiting Professor in the Department of Physics at M.I.T. where she will lecture, conduct seminars and meet informally with students. She will be on leave from the University of California from March 17 to June 15.
Geoffrey Burbidge has been appointed Phillips Visiting Professor at the Harvard College Observatory for the same period.
He is a professor of physics at the University of California and is an eminent theoretical astrophysicist who has made major contributions to the understanding of stellar evolution.
A native of England, he received his B.S. degree at Bristol University, and his Ph.D. in theoretical physics at the University of London
