Carter Lord, Harvard's Star End, Will Sign With Cowboys of NFL

Carter Lord, who set seven pass-catching Harvard records and tied one Ivy League mark, plans to sign with the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League at the end of the baseball season. Lord will travel to Dallas on March 15 with other prospective rookies.

"Unless I can't get into a reserve unit and have to play for Uncle Sam," Lord said, "the Cowboys will try me at tight end, safety, and outside linebacker."

Lord has not played defense since his freshman year, and was not outstanding at the position. He said he was a bit surprised that the Cowboys might test him on defense, in view of the strength of their secondary. However, he asserted that he'd "play anywhere they asked me."

A 6-2, 215-pounder, Lord was a standout end in his three seasons for the Crimson. Among his Harvard records are most yards gained receiving in one game, 199, which also tied the Ivy mark, and most career yards gained receiving, 1076.
