Hellman to Give Course at Adams

Playwright Lillian Hellman will be a guests of Adams House this Spring and will teach a non-credit course, "A Seminar in Writing," for residents of the House.

Miss Hellman is the author of The Children's Hour and Toys in the Attic.

In the five sessions of the seminar she will discuss such topics as theatrical technique and the role of philosophy and politics in the theatre, Reuben A. Brower, Master of Adams House, said yesterday.

Miss Hellman wishes to "follow what the students want," Brower added. She will not limit her discussions to the theatre but hopes to spend at least one session on the movies.

Since January Miss Hellman has been doing research in the theatre section of Houghton Library for a book which is believed to be autobiographical.

The Little Foxes, written by Miss Hellman in 1938, will open Monday at the Colonial Theatre in Boston. The revival of the play is now a Broadway success. Margaret Leighton will play the lead in the Boston production, following Tallulah Bankhead and Anne Bancroft in the role.

After the play closes--sometime in March--Miss Hellman will give a public lecture.

In the Spring of 1961 Miss Hellman was a visiting lecturer in English and gave three lectures consisting of anecdotes and reminiscences at the Loeb.
