Frauds Charged In Boston Area Vacation Offers

Hundreds of college students and teachers, many of them from the Boston area, have been victimized by a fraudulent offer of charter flights to Puerto Rico at bargain prices, according to New York State Attorney General Lewis J. Lefkowitz.

An advertisement offered "Christmas in Puerto Rico" with a round trip flight for $85 and a "package vacation," including island transportation, flights, and hotels, for $145. The flights were scheduled to leave December 21 and 22 from Kennedy International Airport.

Mr. Lefkowitz charged that victims had to pay in advance for their non-existent flights.

Papers filed in the New York State Supreme Court charge that Paul T. Douglas of New York City is implicated in the fraud. Mr. Douglas is also believed to be connected with fraudulent advertisements for drivers to bring new cars, free of charge, to all major cities in the United States.

The CRIMSON, along with other newspapers, ran the fraudulent advertisements.
