JV Icemen Top Northeastern, 5-3, As Baldassari Scores Two Goals

Harvard's JV Hockey team edged out the Northeastern University freshmen, 5-3, at Boston Arena last night.

Early in the first period, Roy Coppedge slammed a shot at the Northeastern netman Ed Eberly. The puck spun off the pole into the net.

Northeastern came back fast, scoring twice to take the lead, 2-1. The score held until the last minute of the period, when Harvard's Jim Oates drove the puck into the Northeastern net, tieing the game at 2 all.

In the second period Harvard's defense held firm, with goalie Paul Oldfield making 11 saves and allowing no goals. The Harvard offense drove into Eberly's lap time and again. Eberly made 12 good saves, but he couldn't stop Jim Baldassari, who put the Crimson ahead, 3-2, on an assist from Steve Baker.

Northeastern came back fighting, but Harvard's defensemen held for half the third period. Then Anthony Pompero tied the score at 3 all.

In the last six minutes, play was fast and rough. Oates came through again, with help from Ed Gallagher, and Baldassari scored his second goal, with an assist from Joe Tibbetts, to complete the 5-3 victory.
