Injury-Riddled Booters Shuffle Line-up For Today's Contest Against Princeton

Lowly Princeton stands a good chance of knocking off Harvard's ailing soccer team today.

Coach Bruce Munro reports that the condition of six of his starters is in doubt, including Jaime Vargas, Scott Robertson, Pete Bogovich, Hilary Worthen, Gary Montero, and Richie Hardy.

"I think they all are going to start, except Worthen, but the question is how long they can go. They may go five minutes, half the game, or they may finish the game," Munro said.

Harvard suffered its first defeat of the season to Penn last Saturday, tumbling to fourth place in the Ivy standings. The Crimson's record now stands at 1-1-2 in league play.

Munro has decided to scrap the 4-2-4 offense that the Crimson utilized so effectively against Cornell and return to the traditional 5-2-3 attack.

"Hardy was doubtful at the beginning of the week, so I decided to switch back to the 5-2-3," Munro explained. "You can substitute one of the link men, but you cannot substitute both of them".

Harvard's forward line will also be re-adjusted. Munro plans to shift Jaime Vargas, who has been slowed down by a muscle pull, to center forward. Center forward Pete Bogovich will move to inside right and Solomon Gomez will move to inside left.

Bogovich Hurt

Bogovich, too, will be playing at less than full speed. He injured his knee in the rough Penn game. "It seems to be a re-aggravation of an injury he got playing somewhere else," Munro said.

Fullback Hilary Worthen and wing Scott Robertson are the biggest question marks for the Princeton game. Worthen is suffering from a charley horse sustained in the Penn game which kept him out of practice all week. And Robertson may have a torn cartilege, which would probably sideline him for the rest of the season.

In addition, Richie Hardy has been on penicillin all week and Gary Montero is still recovering from a serious muscle pull.

Munro does not attribute all the trouble to injuries. "Our passing game has fallen off," he said. "We outshot Penn on Saturday but they had the ball down in our zone much longer. Our offense was a one shot affair."

Ahmed Yehia and Bruce Detora will probably see a lot of action today, filling in for the tired starters. Bob Gray, who has played only once since his head injury a month ago, "was starting to look like his old self this week," according to Munro, and should bolster the Crimson defense.
