In a display of depth and tenacity, the Harvard tennis team captured second place in the Eastern Collegiate Tennis Tournament, which ended Sunday at Princeton, New Jersey.

Competing against a tough collection of ECAC teams, Harvard scored points in each of the three levels of tournament play. Princeton's 43 points was high, while the Crimson's 34 easily captured second ahead of Army and M.I.T.

In the group A singles, John Levin '69 advanced to the semifinals before losing to a seeded player from L.I.U. Rocky Jarvis '69 lost to Princeton's top player early in the tournament. Later, Levin and Jarvis avenged their losses by capturing the group A doubles title.

The group B team did not fare so well, as only Terry Oxford reached as far as the semifinals.

The success of the group C team revealed the potential of the Harvard squad. Steve Devereaux '69 won the singles C tournament, while teammate Bill Washauer '71, after an early loss to a Princetonian, won the consolation round.
