Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
The Harvard freshman soccer team, sparked by Rus Bell's two goals, outclassed highly touted Exeter yesterday, 3-1.
Bell, who had missed the last game against B.U. because of a pulled groin muscle, repeatedly brought the ball downfield, brilliantly dribbling by stunned Exeter players.
As expected, Exeter put its strength in the backfield. In the second half, Harvard's front line had to face seven men on the opposition's defense.
Bell Scores First
The Yardlings scored first, just two minutes into the game, when Bell kicked the ball past the goalie off a short pass from Bill Bennett. He scored again in the second quarter after a corner kick by left wing Fred Pope. In the scramble in front of the net, Bell drove the ball in for the goal.
Phil Kydes, who was elected team captain after the game, scored Harvard's third and final goal on a quick attack from the left side.
Harvard's defense, led by hustling center half Chris Wilmot and aided by fullbacks Red Jahncke and Barnes Abbot, played exceptionally well throughout the game, turning back all but one of Exeter's attacks. Exeter capitalized on a momentary lapse in the second quarter to score its one goal of the game.
Coach Dana Getchell, who foresaw Exeter's emphasis on the defense, said he still was not satisfied with the team's offensive performance. The line did not use enough of the plays worked out in practice which were designed to overcome the defense-oriented Exeter play.
Dartmouth Warmup
Today's match was in a sense a warmup for the big game on Friday against Dartmouth. According to Getchell, Dartmouth, which traditionally has a strong team, also puts most of its strength in the defensive backfield.
Dartmouth will be the biggest test to date for the Yardlings, who currently sport a 4-0 season record.
