Pennypacker, Massachusetts Lead In Freshmen Football Intramurals

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Pennypacker and Massachusetts Halls have established themselves as touch football powerhouses as both have compiled undefeated records in the freshman intramural competition.

The two teams are in the National League, with Pennypacker enjoying a half-game lead at the moment. Pennypacker has won six, half of them by forfeit. Three of Massachusett's five victories have also been by forfeit. Pennypacker will play Massachusetts October 30.

Quarterback Tommy Paul and split end Josh Burns have paced Pennypacker's attack. Paul's main attribute is speed, and two men are necessary to contain him. Burns caught two touch-down passes in their 14-8 victory over Wigglesworth East. Massachusetts attributes its success to a well balanced team effort.

Thayer North appears to be the only other team in contention in the National League. They have won four of their five contests, losing only to Massachusetts 12-7.

American League

In the American League, there is a three-way tie for first place. Grays, Greenough, and Weld North all have 4-1 records. Grays is attempting to win the overall championship for the second year in a row, after capturing the title last year by over 100 points.

In freshmen soccer, the team from the East Yard is in first place. Both the South and the West Yard are in second, and the winner of their season-ending game this week will tie the East Yard for the championship.

There are no football games this week, but the annual freshman intramural cross-country race over a two-mile course is at 3 p.m. today.
