Porte Gets Tenure

Joel M. Porte, Allston Burr Senior Tutor in Quincy House, has been named associate professor of English.

Porte, who became a senior tutor this fall, has been a member of the Harvard Faculty since 1962. He will assume his new tenured post July 1.

A specialist in American literary history, he has written Emerson and Thoreau: Transcendentalists in Conflict and The Romance of America: Studies in Cooper, Poe, Hawthorne, Melville and James.
