John P. Coolidge Resigns As Fogg Museum Director

John P. Coolidge '35, professor of Fine Arts, is resigning after 20 years as director of the Fogg Art Museum, President Pusey announced yesterday.

The resignation will be effective next summer. Colidge plans to devote his time to teaching and research in the history of art and architecture. He will remain at Harvard--where he has been a member of the Faculty since 1947--teaching a course on "Art Museum Problems."

Coolidge said yesterday that he has been particularly pleased by the Fogg's recent series of open exhibitions, and noted that the Museum continues to be a major training-ground for museum curators and directors. He added that the Fogg has strengthened its collections of prints and drawings and of Oriental art with important acquisitions and loans.

"I don't know if I've left a mark on the Museum," he said, "but it has certainly left its mark on me."
