Varsity, Yardlings Beat Bruin Swimmers Easily

The varsity swimming team took a brief Southern vacation in Providence yesterday, enlivening their stay with a 62-32 rout of Brown.

Nine different Crimson swimmers took first as Harvard captured all but two firsts in the meet.

Bill Shrout took the 200 yard free-style for the Crimson, while Eric Harson captured a first in the 100 yard free-style and a second in the 50 yard free-style behind teammate Pete Abrams.

Harvard's Terry Flanagan won the 200 yard backstroke. While Buzz Cummings and Doug Walther chalked up Crimson victories in the 200 yard backstroke and 200 yard butterfly, respectively.

Harvard captured the 100 yard free-style relay despite an exam-induced depth shortage.

The freshman team romped to a 70-23 win over the Bruins, who showed up with only seven swimmers.

The Harvard freshmen set one Yardling record. The relay team of Mike Calahan. Dave Powlison, Steve Krause, and Toby Gerhart finished in 3:19.4.

The victory hoists the varsity's season record to 3-1.
