Crimson Booters Shoot for Upset In Amherst Tilt

The Harvard soccer team, hurting all over, probably won't feel any better when it returns from Amherst this evening. The Crimson will be playing one of the top teams in the East this afternoon, a squad that played its first game a full month before Harvard started practicing.

Only the forward line will be in any kind of shape, as injuries and sickness continue to beset the booters. Coach Bruce Monro admits that it will take all five pre-league games to get the team working together, but did see some bright spots in practice and in the Tufts game this past Wednesday.

Sophomores Bruce Detora and Gerry Montero, two hustling forwards, have impressed Munro thus far. And he also feels that if starting goalie John Axten is unable to play today because of injuries from the Tufts game, sophomore Dick Locksley, who made 'some saves of the spectacular variety in the Tufts game" could fill the bill successfully.

It's not a complete team that will be playing Amherst this afternoon, and only if everything clicks, do the walking wounded have a chance of pulling off an upset.
