Harriers, Baker Favored to Win

The Harvard cross-country team should sweep easily to its second straight win of the season this afternoon at Franklin Park against a rebuilding Northeastern team.

In the opening meet against Providence last Saturday, the Crimson, led by captain Jim Baker, took the first four places to win 20-35. Earlier that day. Northeastern, running on the same Franklin Park course, was bombed by Holy Cross and the Boston Athletic Association.

None of the Huskies finished under the time of Harvard's fourth finisher against Providence, Doug Hardin. In fact, John Deary, the lead Husky, settled for eleventh place while N.U. captain Jon Castanza finished way back in the pack.

Northeastern coach Irwin Cohen admits this is a year of reconstruction for his squad, which finished 7-1 last Fall. "Harvard is probably one of the roughest we'll face," he said yesterday. "They look like championship material."

For Harvard and Coach Bill McCurdy, today may be a chance to see how far the ailments of Hardin (bad knees) and Keith Colburn (Achilles tendon) have healed.
