O'Donnell Named Player of Week

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Harvard baseball captain Joe O'Donnell was named player of the week in the Eastern "Intercollegiate Baseball League last week for his leading role in the Crimson victories over Pennsylvania and Cornell.

Hitting with the crisp effectiveness which brought him All-League honors as a sophomore, the 6 ft. 200 lb, senior got two singles and a double in six times at bat, scored four runs and hiked his batting average to a resounding 462.

O'Donnell attributes his comeback this spring -- he slipped to a 194 average last year after hitting 378 as a sophomore -- mainly to the fact that he has switched from catching to playing first base.

"As a catcher you're always in the game, you have to concentrate on defense all the time," he said. "At first base, on the other hand, you have a chance to think more about offense."
