Bingham Award to Corris; McCullough Given Burr

Bob Corris, for three seasons a standout in the breaststroke and individual medley, received the William J. Bingham Award last night at the first annual senior lettermen's dinner, held at the Varsity Club.

The evening's other honor, the Francis H. Burr Scholarship, went to hockey captain Dennis McCullough. The wing from Dollar Bay, Mich., will use the cash award to study medicine at Harvard next year.

Corris, who holds the Harvard records in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, was designated "that member of the graduating class who, because of his integrity, courage, leadership, and athletic ability, has best served the high purposes of Harvard."

In his junior year, the Providence, R.I. swimmer was named to the All-American squad after winning both breaststroke races at the Eastern Championships. Corris also compiled 20 straight victories in the 200 before he was sidelined by mononucleosis midway through this season.

Berkeley Bound

He capped a remarkable comeback from his illness by placing second in the 200 at the Easterns. Corris plans to continue swimming next year while studying law at the University of California at Berkeley.

Corris is the third swimmer to win the Bingham Award since it was established in 1954. Last year's recipient was track captain Tony Lynch. The Burr Scholarship for 1966 went to basketball captain Barry Williams.
