Baseball, Lacrosse Teams Face Yale Here Tomorrow

Game time: 2 p.m., Cumnock Field

Fresh from Wednesday's 15-6 destruction of Holy Cross, the lacrosse team will try to close the season in winning fashion tomorrow against Yale at Cum-nock Field. Game time is 2 p.m.

The Crimson stickmen, who have built a three-game victory skein in the last two weeks, will face a mediocre Eli contingent. On scores with common opponents, the game would have to be rated even, a "pick-em" proposition.

Both squads have come on strong in recent contests after miserable starts. Both are relatively young teams. Throw in the surprises of all Harvard-Yale encounters, and the conclusion is that anything can happen tomorrow.

Juniors Vital

The hopes of each squad will be riding on their big junior midfielders -- Yale with Tom Preston and Harvard with Marty Cain. Preston has been the Yalie offensive powerhouse this season with 17 goals, five in last weekend's 12-8 upset of Brown. Cain has accounted for 22 Crimson tallies this spring, and topped Preston's performance with a six-goal total against Holy Cross.

Yale has shown an inability to score against solid defenses. Cornell -- almost upended by Harvard three weeks ago -- limited the Elis to four goals, as did Penn and Rutgers. The Crimson defense of Dave Davis, Rick Loomis, Mike Ananis -- fast improving into one of the most solid units in the League -- may put a damper on Yale's offense. Other key Yalies to watch downfield will be Doug Kennedy and Rick McCarthy, who have scored 23 goals between them.
