Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
John M.H. Lindbeck, associate director of the East Asian Research Center, is resigning his post on July 1 to become the director of Columbia University's East Asian Institute.
An expert in Pacific security problems and the politics of mainland China, Lindbeck was appointed associate director in 1959. At that time Harvard had only one man studying modern China. Now that there are five men on China here, Lindbeck said yesterday, he is leaving to help develop Columbia's program.
From 1953 to 1958, he worked for the Department of State as an advisor on Chinese affairs. He previously served Columbia's School of International Affairs as deputy director of its project on "Men and Politics in Modern China."
Lindbeck has recently been appointed as consultant to the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare on implementing the International Education Act.
