All four home teams in the ECAC first round gave up two goals but won last night. Cornell scored the biggest victory, 11-2 over Brown, and Boston College followed with a surprisingly easy 9-2 romp over defending champion Clarkson.

St. Lawrence tripped Yale, 4-2, and will face B.U., winner over Harvard, in the semifinal round. B.C. and Cornell will square off in the first half of the double-header, to be held Thursday night at the Boston Garden.

Giants Acquire Tarkenton

The New York football Giants picked up Minnesota quarterback Fran Tarkenton yesterday in a move to climb from the NFL cellar and help New York fans forget the similarly scrambling Cornellian. Gary Wood, who was given away to the New Orleans Saints last month. Tarkenton, who refused to return to the Vikings, was purchased dearly -- for this year's top two draft choices, the number one pick the next year, and a player to be agreed on.
