Governor Reagan:

I was deeply moved by your call upon the academic community to assist the State of California in balancing her budget. As my contribution to this noble effort. I have decided to cancel my planned visit to several of the campuses of the University of California, to which I had been invited to discuss the possibility of joining the faculty. This will at the very least save the University and the State of California one round-trip, cross country plane ticket and very possibly my salary in future years.

Good luck to you and Finance Director Smith in eliminating the "fat" at the University. Lars G. Sandberg Assistant Professor of Economics
