Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
Over 500 freshmen have signed a petition asking Mrs. Theresa Caufield to return to her job as waitress in Hazen's Restaurant. Thomas L. Saltonstall'70, drafter of the petition, plans to circulate it in the House dining halls tomorrow.
"Theresa is the greatest Harvard tradition in existence," the petition reads. "We miss her and we need her. To our minds, without Theresa Hazen's no longer exists. We want Theresa back."
"I definitely will not go back," Theresa said last night. "I really don't think Hazen's wants me back now, anyway."
Business Dissolving
"We have lost a lot of business since Theresa left," Mrs. Marion Whouley, owner of Hazen's said last night. "We were very upset and sorry to see her go. She told us that she was leaving because of her husband's poor health--we weren't aware there was anything else bothering her."
Theresa told the CRIMSON Thursday night that she was leaving because of her unwillingness to discipline unruly customers, whom she called "my friends." Mrs. Whouley will not say whether she would consider rehiring Theresa.
John F. Adams'68 took Theresa to dinner yesterday afternoon at Eliot House, where she received a standing ovation. Adams also presented her with a corsage. "I was really thrilled," Theresa said. "I had never even been inside a House before."
Henry T. Blodget'68 has gotten more than a dozen Leverett House members to buy Theresa a case of champagne. They are planning a party for her on the night she attends the Hasty Pudding show.
"Long live Theresa" read a sign taped to the outside of Hazen's window Saturday night. Meanwhile, Theresa dined next door--at Elsie's.
